Hello!
I am Jeanine Valrie Logan and I'm a Certified Nurse Midwife, author, mom, and wife. I've spent most of my professional career as a birth worker, breastfeeding advocate, and being vocal about birth justice and the disparate birth outcomes that disproportionately affect Black birthing people and our families.
Over the last year, I have been working alongside some AMAZING birth justice warriors, legislators, and out of hospital advocates to bring attention to the lack of access to care on the South Side and strong support of the development of Chicago South Side Birth Center. This past year, we have made huge strides in changing the law to expand birth center options specifically in areas where the maternal and child health outcomes are 2-4 times worse than the state. With several OB units closed, South Side families have limited options for birth both in and out of hospital. Establishing a birth center on the South Side would be a viable, right now solution to the long term, larger systemic issue of lack of access to quality health care and perinatal health.
Chicago South Side Birth Center will be a midwife led, nonprofit birth center located on Chicago's South Side. It is our vision to provide concordant, culturally-safe, evidence-based midwifery care alongside families and within community. It is our mission to improve outcomes, promote wellness, and overall abundance in whole health. Lastly, it is our active goal to improve outcomes and wellness for birthing people, babies, and families on the South Side.
Let's move our community options from a place of lack to a place of DESERVING ABUNDANCE! Thank you all!
-Jeanine
